My best shot was the last rooster of the year. Rooster flushed wild at over 200 yards on an abandoned railroad bed. He flew across an entire section, but I knew there was grazed. out pasture on the other side of the section line. So I hustled the mile and put pup in cattails at that section line.

A few years ago I bought a grandson a Stevens 555E in 20 ga. It's a nice gun but it's no Browning. I guess it probably depends on your budget but I recommend one of the 16 ga. Easiest pheasant hunt I ever had was early season birds on state ground in a park like setting. There were young trees about 15 feet high planted every 50 feet.
