Subaru crosstrek auto lock walk away.
No gauge lights. It doesn't crank. I have taken it to two mechanics, and neither can identify the issue. On a couple of occasions, I have hooked it up to a battery charger and it instantly starts. It makes me think it is related to the immobilizer - almost like hooking it up to the charger makes the immobilizer reset.

Greetings, My experience is according the owner's manual: grip the handle to unlock the door on the driver's side and touch the grid with a finger (conductive glove in the cold) to lock (single chirp). Gripping the passenger side door handle opens all doors and it chirps twice. This works fairly consistently.
Problem: If I simply put the alarm key in the car and use a normal key to manually lock the door from the outside, the alarm will auto-arm and will sound when I use the key to open the door later. You will need to un-wrap the key later when away from the car. If the app is on the key, then forget all this.

A couple of weeks ago I went out on a hike and of course dropped one of my keys (luckily I found it). However this made me think that a good lock box on the outside of the Crosstrek for a key could easily be made using the rear knockout panel on the bumper. I'm thinking of sealing off the inside of it, and adding a magnetic latch to the cover.

As someone who has broken wheel locks before (when asked by the customer who had lost their key while working at a tire shop), wheel locks are a deterrent. They can be broken, but it will take more time and effort than a regular lug nut. Only thieves that know how to break them will be successful. Some cars from other manufacturers do have “walk away lock” feature (I used it on my Mazda) but I don’t think Subaru offers this on their line up.2022 Touring - Walk away door locks?
