If you are worried about gas mileage, then the Honda Rebel might be your best choice, small, gets you a LOT more mileage than the 750 or the 1100. The VT1100C Shadow was a 4 speed between 1987-1996. I have a 1996 and it is also a 4 speed. They are also all dual pin. The VT1100C model was then called the "spirit" after 1996. All of the 1100 spirits after 1997 are 5 speeds and dual pins. The single pin versions were put in other versions of the 1100 shadows.Averaging 44-46 mpg. 10k miles and not a single issue yet. My 1996 Honda Shadow 1100 only gets about 35 mpg, which I understand is substantially less than other bikes of the same make and model & engine size. Perhaps it's running too rich. My 1998 Harley Davidson Sportster XL883 Hugger gets 55 mpg. Pretty good for a cruiser type bike that's got an engine of nearly 900 cc displacement.I find the 1100 Spirit to be a good highway bike. It seems light and nimble. The throttle response is good. It gets about 55 mpg on the highway at 70 mph. I determined, in its stock configuration, it will out-perform nearly all stock Harleys. I've checked the gas mileage several times and it gets about 44 mpg. I've suspected that my reserve is larger than the 0.6 gallon listed in the Sabre's specs and wanted to know exactly how far my reserve would go.
