This for sure, but if you leave it at the default date a decent AI-federation can take on a 10x crisis and keep it at bay apart from probably the contingency. If you play with mods this can power creep to hilarious proportions, playing with gigastructures I've seen the AI completely obliterate x25 scourge and unbidden invasions in a few years.

How to efficiently fight contingency? In my current game I'm losing against the Contingency. They have 1 million strength fleets whereas I can field at most 200k fleets. Even if I take 5 fleets to match one of theirs I still have trouble beating it. I tried corvette and distruptor spam, battlecruiser and lightning spam, all with shields.

For high Contingency crises, yea anti-hull works the best since hull isn’t buffed nearly as much compared to the shields or armor (like 17% of their total health pool). Determined Exterminator has everything it says on the tin: 30% cheaper outposts right out the gate, better & cheaper warships, higher naval cap, etc; but it also has a "hidden" benefit that won't be obvious to anyone who hasn't played them.
