Generally, I found that Stamina is so much more useful than I originally thought and it helped me navigate the world faster than focusing on only hearts first. Plus, foods add yellow hearts are much easier to make than foods that add extensions to your Stamina. Once you max out on Stamina then you return to just upgrading hearts.
