Any help narrowing down the production date on this 80DL would be greatly appreciated. I had intended to ask about the Golden 39A Mountie in the top photos as well, but in the course of typing this up I finally figured out where to look for the serial number, so that mystery is solved. I challenge anyone to produce a 39a, with the brass insert grip cap, that has a serial number prefix other than an "H". Also the white buttplate spacer wasn't added until 1951 either. There was an insert, in the 1952 catalog, dated 3/52 that said the program was stopped. I found my scan of it. It's hard to read, but you get the idea.BLACKPOWDERX represents the months. A = 1949. You can then look at the number range of the Stevens model on the chart above. They did not appear on a fixed spot on the gun and you need to remove the stock to find the code.
