It will prevent the build up of gunk in the carbs. The way you did it the old gas sat in the carb bowls depositing the crap, then you put the seafoam in to clean it up. Try running without an air filter. These new engines of all makes are running so lean you can not running them without an air filter which makes it hard to do carb work on some of them. On some engines I have had to make a special filter set up to do carb work.

The engine started to surge like it was running out of fuel. When I stopped to open the gate and idled it down, the engine nearly died. I thought maybe the gauge was reading wrong and the tank was empty even though it needle was pointing to 1/4 tank. I pushed the throttle all the way open, and the engine seemed to run OK.
