As sickle mowers are used, the knife back (the 1/4 x 3/4 inch steel bar that holds the sections) tends to warp. A rock may lodge between a section and guard; even though nothing breaks the knife back may be slightly twisted or bent. Over the years the knife back can become fairly squiggley.
Posted July 29, 2013. I have a 9' #1300 3pt sickle bar mower. It has an arm with a roller attached to the 3pt hitch that comes up under the tractor's left side lower 3 pt arm. Probably the best mounted mower for an IH H or M is an IH balanced head Number 120 mower. Some call them IH 100 mowers as they were available in 3-pt, fast-hitch, trailer, or semi-mount.
