Spear type weapons (spears, garden forks, ect) have a chance to 1 hit very reliably, even with no skill. Don’t know if it works for multi hit, but spear type is the only weapon category with a forward facing instakill animation, while other weapons CAN 1 hit only the spear type and knives have special instakill animations.

With multi hit you also get reduced exp with weapons. The setting assumes you're always hitting the maximum number of targets with a multi hit weapon. So if a crowbar only hits 2 enemies, you get 2/3 the normal exp because it could hit 3. Survivor gives you a lot more freedom in combat, but I think the biggest thing, is the fact you can hit 3 zombies at a time rather than just 1.
