Each forum also has Top Questions. Also look at my Switzerland’ web site. I would choose a maximum of 2 bases maybe 1 on a lake and 1 in the mountains.

There are very many regular Postbus routes that can be considered scenic - for example most of the Valais side-valley routes, I remember the route to Anniviers village, not only for the views, but also the bus drivers impressive skills. Assuming this is your first trip to Switzerland. For only 5 days possible options are Basel to Montreux area, via Golden Pass line to Jungfrau region and via Lucerne to Zurich. A more mountain oriented trip could be Basel to Montreux, Zermatt (for Gornergrat train), Glacier Express to Chur for Zurich.

It is also entirely Swiss. And Luzern is a nice small city and there are several villages in the area, also on the lake, that might make a good base.
