I recently inherited a Remington Sportsman 48. While using it hunting, the handle to the bolt flew out, I found the bolt, re-inserted it, but could not rack the bolt back to load the gun. I've tried field stripping the gun, taking the barrel off, bolt out and trigger assembly off and reassembling the gun.
Bought a Remington Sportsman 48 (16 gauge) from a guy at work, got it cheap because it wouldn't cycle shells out. I tore it down (pulled the bolt and the trigger) and cleaned it, now it cycles sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I'm not sure how this shotgun is supposed to work, the barrel seems to float with the action. Dec 5, 2021 · What I was referring to was my Sportsman 48 has the same friction ring but also a couple of additional rings, one of which you can reverse depending on the load. The Model 11 schematic shows very similar rings. My 11-48 doesn't have those two additional rings, only the friction ring. The Sportsman 48 has 3 rings.

I have a 28 gauge Remington 11-48.Have had it apart in the past but at this time I just forget how the bolt came out.From what I remember it was not diffcult. When shooting the shotgun I wipe a little oil with a soaked cleaning patch on the magazine tube.Let us know how you enjoy shooting the shotgun.

The 48 Sportsman would have a rounded off receiver, much like an 1100 or 870. A Sportsman 58 would be much the same, but gas operated.
