Combat is far more engaging than in any other roguelike. The classes are more interesting as well. Yeah, it trades world variety for class variety. The levels in Maj'Eyal are pretty similar every time, and eventually you get into a bit of a routine with them, but the playstyle changes a lot based on the class you choose.
On the other hand, I feel like TOME is probably the most complete, longest, broadest, biggest Roguelike I play. It feels immense, unending.
