My experience has been that aluminum canoes are more likely to leak after hitting rocks because of the seam along the floor. I've wrapped plastic boats around rocks so hard that the floor was above the gunnels and the whole boat was under a pillow. I've had it out on the lake a couple times and it does fine with the broken ribs but I'd like it to be right and there was a duct tape repair I didn't like the looks of.
