The game would be insanely tedious if you weren't able to get stat points from spending credits to make elex potions. Just using ONE single decent weapon midgame (midgame = lvl 15-25) requires you to make a bunch of elex potions, as with the 5 stat point cost per 1 level after 60 in any stat you are not getting your stat levels just from your 10 points per character level.
In late game, I usually 1-hit kill most high level monsters with a combine Freeze and Poison effect to farm lots of Elex. I don't have any details except I know that frost & poison kill really fast.
